Luxury and Technology: Home Automation at The Notary Hotel

After 2.5 years of extensive renovations, the boutique hotel The Notary opened its doors in 2023, offering an exclusive experience in the heart of Bruges, Belgium. Housed in a 19th-century building that once served as a notary’s residence, this urban palace seamlessly blends historic charm with cutting-edge technology. Smart home automation plays a key role in adapting the environment to the time of day and the guests' needs.
Personalization and Comfort in Every Suite
The hotel features eight uniquely decorated suites, each designed by renowned interior designer Pieter Porters. While varying in style and sophistication, all suites are equipped with the TELETASK home automation system, enabling pre-programmed ambiance settings to maximize guest comfort.
“We wanted to automate as much as possible to ensure a worry-free stay,” explains Thomas Ulenaers, co-owner of The Notary. As soon as guests insert their key card into the reader, a welcome scene is activated: the lighting adjusts, the fireplace turns on during colder months, the music starts playing, and the temperature is automatically regulated.

TELETASK Solutions for Luxury Hotels
The hotel owners opted for TELETASK technology based on a recommendation from Electro Pyfferoen, an experienced installer that has implemented TELETASK systems in other prestigious hotels in the region. This smart integration not only allows for personalized atmospheres but also optimizes operations and reduces energy consumption.

Guests can customize their settings via a SuitePad tablet featuring the TELETASK app, where they can control lighting, climate, the fireplace, and Sonos sound system playlists.
Automation Beyond the Suites

The home automation system extends beyond the rooms. On the ground floor, lighting automatically adapts to natural daylight, gradually adjusting every five minutes to create a pleasant ambiance without the need for manual intervention.
At the reception, a TELETASK OPUS touchscreen allows staff to activate and deactivate pre-set scenarios, while motion sensors ensure that lights in staircases, garages, and bathrooms are only activated when necessary.
Technology also simplifies hotel management: the TELETASK app enables staff to see in real-time which suites are occupied, assisting the housekeeping team in planning cleaning schedules efficiently.

Music and Lighting for an Immersive Experience
Music and lighting are essential elements of The Notary’s ambiance. During breakfast, the playlist is soft and welcoming, while in the evening, the selection shifts to a more refined atmosphere. In the garden, the volume gradually lowers throughout the night, ensuring a seamless and relaxing experience.
“Lighting and music shape the guest experience,” says Ulenaers. “We wanted a warm, elegant atmosphere, and automation was crucial in achieving that.”

Energy Efficiency and Enhanced Security
Beyond convenience and comfort, the TELETASK system enhances energy efficiency and security. Temperature sensors automatically regulate the HVAC system, while removing the access card from the reader switches off the fireplace, music, and other energy-consuming elements.
“We are extremely satisfied with our choice,” concludes Ulenaers. “Automation not only elevates the guest experience but also optimizes hotel operations and reduces operating costs.”
